Welcome to the Valley of Many Deer Gallery
This unique Missouri art gallery is surrounded by one hundred acres of native prairie grass, pasture, and gardens.
The gallery's vision is closely related to nature and the rich history of the area.  Hiking trails are carved into the
native grass for nature lovers to enjoy the fresh air, solitude of nature and scenery of all the seasons.  The barn
gallery and studio showcases local artists, writers, gardeners and musicians.  The gallery hosts three special events
a year. During the festivals, area musicians provide entertainment.

History of the Area
The Cherokee word for valley of many deer is Chilhowee.  One of the early settlers, James Simpson, happened here
by accident when a broken wheel disabled the pioneer from going any farther on the Old Fort Scott Road.  Simpson
decided this was as good of a place as any and established a store, from his wagon, to aid passing travelers on
their way to
Fort Scott, Kansas. Having left the Tennessee mountain town of Chilhowee in 1855, James decided on
this name because of the abundance of the wild animals in this area and memories of the town he left behind. Thus
was the beginning of the town, Chilhowee, Missouri.
