In 1891 the Corder, Missouri bank was robbed by two men. One young
man of about 23 did not escape. Town Marshall Dewitt Hackley was
trying to take the prisoner to a safer location when a mob stormed the
livery stable.
When the sliding doors of the Wilson Livery Stable were opened that
dark night, a mob seized the handcuffed bank robber in the curtained
carriage and hanged him from a high tree a mile west of town.
